Veerayya Vantagodimath
The Visionary Color Sage of Koppal
Born on 20 July 1972 in Huttaragi, Bijapur district, Veerayya Vantagodimath is an accomplished painter whose artistic journey embodies devotion, discipline, and deep cultural belonging. With formal training in AM GD Art and MFA, he represents a rare blend of traditional wisdom and academic mastery, carrying forward the creative spirit of North Karnataka into contemporary art practice.
From his earliest years, Veerayya gravitated toward color and form, finding his voice in the textures of rural life, temple traditions, and the emotional landscapes of everyday people. Over the last three decades, his work has evolved into a powerful visual language—rooted in realism, enriched with devotion, and marked by a profound understanding of human character. His portraits, murals, and narrative paintings reflect an intimate connection with the spiritual and cultural rhythms of Karnataka.
Veerayya’s artistic footprint is vast. Since his first exhibition in 1992, he has participated in numerous major art events including Chitrashante, Karnataka Lalitkala Academy Exhibitions, state-level teacher exhibitions, national artist gatherings, district camps, and open-air art festivals. His consistent presence in Karnataka’s art ecosystem has earned him a place as a respected and influential figure among both artists and educators.
As an art teacher, he has shaped countless young talents with unmatched dedication. His workshops, children’s art camps, teacher-training sessions, and statewide creative programmers highlight his unwavering commitment to arts education. He has been invited to participate and contribute to state-level, national-level, and academy-hosted workshops, where he is recognized for both his skill and his ability to inspire.
Veerayya’s contributions extend beyond the studio. He has created numerous public murals, temple artworks, and institutional portraits, including large-scale oils for government offices, school murals, temple shrines, and community spaces. His artworks—such as the portrait of IAS officer Shankar, expansive temple murals, and cultural depictions across Bijapur district—stand as enduring cultural landmarks.
His artistic excellence has been honored with a remarkable array of accolades:
• Universal Artist Award 2024
• Multiple Gold Awards (2022)
• Nation Builder Award 2020
• Golden Book of World Records recognition
• State, district, and taluka-level Best Art Teacher Awards
• District Best Artist Award
• Numerous recognitions tied to his students’ achievements under his mentorship
These achievements stand as testimony to his dual legacy as an artist and educator.
Today, Veerayya Vantagodimath continues to create from Bijapur with the same sincerity and devotion that shaped his early years. His art remains a bridge between past and present—celebrating Karnataka’s heritage, honouring its people, and preserving its stories through color, texture, and timeless artistic truth.
